Network Update—11/21/2024
No matter what has transpired in your family or ministry during 2024, you have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. The Bible teaches, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Most Americans have little clue what happened to the Pilgrims when they first came to the New World, escaping religious persecution and seeking religious freedom. William Bradford's wife, Dorothy May, accidentally fell off The Mayflower on December 7, 1620, and drowned. The Pilgrims who finally landed at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts on December 18, 1620, lacked adequate provisions and shelter for the harsh winter they would encounter. Most of the settlers became sick within weeks. Only 12 of 26 men with families and 4 of the 12 single men and boys survived that first winter. Of the 18 married women, 13 died. By April 1621, half of the 102 Mayflower passengers had died of disease and famine.
Despite everything that happened, their difficult circumstances finally improved. The Mayflower sailed back to England in the spring of 1621 but none of the Pilgrims chose to return with the ship. By the summer of 1621, the Indians were teaching the Pilgrims to plant corn because the wheat they brought from England would not grow in the rocky ground. The Pilgrims learned to hunt and fish, too. By the end of 1621, they had a feast and thanked God for His “plenteous harvest.”
Give thanks for God's "plenteous harvest" to you. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving. Love and appreciate you much!
